Curious to know how users find the battery life when using the HD video on their 5DII's?

How long can a continuous video go for?

some indie filmmakers on a forum I float around reckon a day's shooting needs 2 + 1 spare batteries, maybe 1 more.... but this is of course for a 'film making' enviroment, not casual video shooting or similar enviroment.

Thanks guys.

Does it matter what size memory card you have in it, or will it always only get to 30 minutes, regardless of how large the card is?

You will hit 4G WAY before you hit 30mins, trust me.

I think the limitation is a tax reason, any longer it'll have to be classed as a video camcorder or something, rather than a sensor (heat) reason.

Gulp. So what size card would you need for 30mins of footage?

Wiki says

Movie clips can be up to 4 GB in size, approximately 12 minutes of 16:9 HD (1920x1080) or 24 minutes of 4:3 SD (640x480) footage (depending on scene complexity). These limits stem from the 4 GB maximum file size supported by the FAT32 filesystem format used on Compact Flash cards. The camera also imposes a hard maximum clip length of 29 minutes 59 seconds if the 4 GB limit has not already been reached.

Lol, never thought of checking on there. Thanks for that. :)

Doesn't sound too bad i spose. Just means a bit of stopping and starting, regardless of the size of card. Need to start stocking up on cards now mind you.
