Battery packs

Hi,

I'm just wondering, do battery packs use one battery first, then the next one after the first one has run out? Or is it meant to use both batteries at the same time?

Only reason I ask is because when I use my battery pack and check the battery, one battery is 100% where as the other battery is about 66%.

Hi, not sure what system/brand you are using, but generally, there is an option in your menus to pick which gets used first. The camera wouldn't use both at the same time.

You mean battery grips?

On my BG-E7, if I start with two fully charged batteries then it uses both simultaneously and their levels drop in sync. If I have one battery with more charge than the other though, it seems to use the one with more charge and not touch the lower charged one, presumably this would continue until they're both at the same level.

Hi John,

Yes, in the D90 grip the camera uses one battery at a time. When the first one is dead it'll automatically change to the other one OR it'll stop shooting until you turn the camera off and back on again - depending on which grip you have. The Nikon MB-D80 switches automatically.

Thanks guys wasn't sure if it was meant to be draining both off slowly or just one at a time . Thanks.

I've got Meike grips for my 7D and 5D3 and I think one of them works simultaneously and the other one works one battery at a time. They both work very well though and will display all the info for a 3rd party battery on my 5D3 with the updated firmware (it just doesn't show the battery as an LP-E6 but as Unknown Battery).
