Battery Q!!!

Yippie!!! My new body turned up with new birdy lens in tow today!!
Question I ask is do I need to charge the battery for certain time! From experience with other battery's I.e power tools and mobiles you need to give them about 16 hrs!
Dont think I did this with my last 450d battery!!

Charge it up while you read the book of words. Then go play - might not last as long as a full charge, but that can happen whilst you're asleep (and after you order the spare battery )

In my experience camera batteries don't take as long as 16 hours to charge. Just stick it in to charge while you have your dinner and a read of the instruction book, then you should be ok. As Jason said, you can leave it to do a proper charge over night.

With lithium-ion batteries you don't have to worry about always fully charging them. They don't have a memory effect like nicads, and are quite happy being partially charged and partially discharged.

I don't know what new body you've just ordered, but with my 550D, 7D and 5DMkII the manual said to charge the battery for around 2 hours. The 5D MkIII manual says it takes around 2.5 hours to completely recharge the battery from fully exhausted. If you charge a battery for 16 hours you're more likely to cook it than charge it.

modern chargers should have a cut off, leaving it on charge overnight wont cause it to die or anything..

a standard eneloop (or at least the one ive got) charger states it takes 10 hours for a full charge with a cut off timer after 16 for example.
