I was thinking about purchasing another battery. But after seeing the shock of £40-£50 for a official canon one. It poses the question.

The battery im after is the lp-e8 can anyone recommend any other batterys other than the official canon bats that a are decent. There must be some out there, that are cheaper too?

cheers

OEM Batteries are flipping expensive, I know because I order 3 canon one's to go with the supplied one with my 5D3 my main reason for buying genuine maybe totally incorrect but I was concerned for any potential warranty issues, but that said as posted above there are some very good non-canon suppliers

I got a bunch of 3rd party batteries when I got the grip for my 550D. I'd bought a second one as a spare, but got 4 no name batts with the grip. They work just as well as the originals, charge as fast, last as long or longer than the originals and they report properly in the grip and in the camera. It cost around £35 for the lot.

I generally try to use genuine batteries, but do have 3rd party ones as a backup

I've used the Energiser + Duracell ones and had no issues.

the non gen batteries that came with my non gen grip were useless
one wouldn't charge the other has a very short life
bought another pair of non gen batteries and they are useless as well
on the hunt at the mo for genuine ones
my original canon- battery that came with my 600d is top notch

I have the energizer ones for my 500D no problem what so ever, I was going to buy somthing similar for the 1D but after reading reviews about the different ones and problems I decided to buy a genuine one. The coppies were not a lot cheaper that the cheapest place available either so not too bad. Still hurts £70 for a battery though.
