Been offered a bit of a classic! Lumix LC1

hi guys, just putting this out there for ideas/opinions :shrug:

i've been offered a camera from a friend a panasonic Lumix DMC-LC1 that i really wanted a little while ago but now don't really need as i have a decent compact (LX3) & my first DSLR (D200)!
it was my first real foray into digital photography since my days of blundering around with film 2 decades ago!
i used it on 3 trips abroad in 2008 & it takes lovely pictures, really sharp & great colours. its only 5mp but you'd never know by looking at the pics.
it has a lovely f2-2.4 Leica lens that works over a 28 - 90mm range (35mm equiv.) they're styled just like an old rangefinder & have all the controls exactly where you'd like them to be if you ever shot the older stuff ie shutter speed dial on the top & 3 rings around the lens for aperture, focus & zoom. add this to a solid metal body & it has a great nostalgic feel when in the hands :thumbs:
anyway they seem to go for £250 -300 on ebay as i think they are still a highly regarded piece. my bud said he'd let me have his little used boxed example for £150 as he knew i liked it:)
obviously i could buy it just to make money but thats not what i'd want to do!
what my real dilemma is, if i decide to buy it is do i really need it? would i be better off spending that money elsewhere? will i ever use it? is it just something else to carry/charge up/fanny around with etc :shrug:
realistically i know i'd be better off just concentrating on learning my D200 but it has some strange kinda pull on me :bonk:
i know its not one of the ones affected by the faulty sensor problem & apparently i've used it more than the guy who owns it so its not seen a hard life & for £150 i can't really go wrong :shrug:
its bigger & heavier than my LX3 but its lighter & easier to use/carry than the D200 but has lower ultimate resolution than both BUT it does take lovely pics & its a nice thing to use :shrug:
i suppose i should just buy a bigger bag & carry it as my backup :naughty:

anybody got any experience of these cameras?
anybody still use one?

its the sister model to the Leica Digilux2 if thats any help:thumbs:

i think i'm gonna have to clear a space in my bag :cuckoo::D
 
I have 2. Both boxed and great condition.
1 is dead ! the other is truly alive !! Panasonic wanted more to fix it than it cost me new!
The good one works a treat and your right about the lens.... Its amazing for what it is. By god it would be worth a lot if i could take it off.

Only issue is the shutter delay,,, you have to think quick and shoot early. And the lack of Buffer is a pain

But it looks bloody amazing

If your mates one is good and you get the FILTER i would say buy it.

Only you can answer that question. And, therefore, only you can decide whether you want the camera or not. We can't do that for you.

If its going to get left at home, then don't bother. If you'll take it out with you wherever you go, then buy it.
 
I'm sure it's a nice camera but it's relatively old tech now. You've used it so you will be able to gauge how it compares with your LX3 for start up time, responsiveness, lag and picture quality. I don't know as I've never used one but I'd guess that your LX3 would beat it in every respect? (I have the similar LX2 and think that it's a great carry anywhere camera.)

However, boys like toys and as it's something that you've wanted at £150 it might be worth it if only for the new toy experience value, but, if you find that after the honeymoon period you're not using it you probably wont want to sell it on at a profit so maybe the best thing to do (if your LX3 is the better camera) would be to thank your chum for the kind offer and help him to sell it on for a good price?
 
Its very much a "take time " camera. You take the time and the rewards are stunning. The lens is that good. The delay is a issue depending on what sort of photography you do. But for portrait and landscape etc it amazed me.
And the way it sits in the hand is the real thing for me. If this camera could have a better spec, maybe 8 million pixs. and no lag etc . and without a doubt a better iso range , I would never get rid of mine.
 
Well I know he's still got it as I texted him last week & it's there waiting for me.
Yes it's not the fastest camera out there but I did use it for some action shots when we were racing & it did pretty well but I hadn't shot anything in years & it will probably seem slower than a week in jail compared to my Nikon!
I think I'll have to go for it as there isn't anything else you can buy for just £150 that looks as cool or gets such nice pics

I doubt very much anyone else will ever get one for that price !!
My none working one is worth about £100.00 as spares .The original filter was nearly £50.00 alone !
 
well it had the filter on it when i used it before so it should be there now :)

i wonder if he'll throw in the Billingham it was in? :lol:
 
Defintiely get it, I was once a whisker away from the Leica equivalent, and really regret it. :(

The reason i like the Pan more than the Leica version is its Black.... looks much much nicer
