Before the rain - some insects

These were captured raw, hand-held a few days ago before the serious rain set in, using my Panasonic FZ330 bridge camera and KX800 twin flash. I used a Raynox 150 close-up lens. #6 might have used two Raynox 150s stacked. They were processed using DXO Optics Pro, Silkypix and Lightroom. There are 1300 pixel high versions in this album at Flickr.

Thanks Alf, Clive. Interesting about the wasp. I wondered whether to include that one or not. There wasn't enough in focus for me to be fully comfortable with it. Glad I decided to put it in anyway.

Thanks Icy. Things have settled down with the KX800. I haven't altered the diffusion setup for a while now, but there is one recent change to how I've been using it. I don't remember if I did it for any of these, but more often now I'm bending one of the arms a long way forwards, turning that flash head right up and using it to throw some light on to dark backgrounds. It doesn't always work, but it can sometimes make a nice difference (to my eye at least). I find it especially useful with subjects are on or near the edge of a leaf.
