Just started photography this year and like the wildlife/landscape photography i have about £1000 saved so far could poss spend a little more I have a canon 500d with the standard 18-55 that came with it, I also have a bag 1x 4gig memory card,tripod and only one battery, any help would be great, I admire anyone who is good at photography now I have taken up this hobby

Ok. So you deffinately want to pick up an extra battery or two. The same with the Memory cards. Lets say you spent 100 on Batterys' and cards.
If your buying new, I thinking you could just about get a 70-200 2.8 Sigma and a 1.4 Coverter. And a siggy 10-20?
Will need to check prices but i reckon its do-able

Memory cards and batteries as mentioned are a good start, but if you use somewhere like 7dayshop you should be able to do for not a lot of cash.
"Wildlife/landscape" probably means two lenses, I'd be thinking 70-200 F4 L and a 10-22 EF-S, or something along those lines. Certainly £1000 should be plenty given you are moving up from a kit lens to see a great improvement in IQ.

If you're really into wildlife then you need to go beyond 300mm. If you have that sort of money available, look for a used Canon 100-400 which will cost you around £850. I have a 70-200 f2.8 and although it's a cracking lens, it's not long enough and I often end up borrowing my mates 100-400.
Add a battery or two and a couple of additional cards. You could also look for a used wide angle lens for the landscape stuff as well if you can push the budget a little more.
