Hi,

I have just got myself a DSLR (Canon 350D) and I am a total novice

I am going to an Exoctic Car show on Sunday to try it out and I was just after a little bit of advice on some settings to try

I'll be using the 18-55 kit lens

If you are totally new to photography, I would be tempted to put it on the simplest automatic setting initially, but keep checking your images as you take them. If it looks to dark or too light, then change the exposure compensation - But make sure you change it back again...... (I've messed up on this recently!:bang: but did change it back after only a shortish time.)

The great thing with digital is that you can constantly review what you have done, and make any adjustments without having to wait till you've developed your film.

Have a great day!

Firstly have fun!

Car shows are great but can be vary frustrating as the vehicles will have people all around and will be close to the next exhibit :bang:

Personally I would avoid the full auto option as it will not make you think about the image as much as when your using say AV or TV but since this is your first outing I can see the merits of auto mode

Try and get lower down as this will give a nicer look and minimise the effect of nasty backgrounds...

Remember to post some pictures for critique afterwards as good critique is always useful, but don't take critique to heart
