Hi all, new to this forum and new to this game, ive recently purchased a fujifilm finepix S2960hd, still trying to get the hang of it, on the bottom of the camera is a female thread for a tripod, does anybody know the size of this? or do all cameras have the same size? im after a tripod that allows you to move the camera 360 degrees (from top to bottom) for macro shots wheres the best place to buy 1 from? do any of you have any recommendations? my limit being £50-£60.

Is anybody able to tell me a bit about this camera? or maybe give me some hints and tips on using it? ive only ever had a samsung wb500 before this.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Shaun

I cant help you on location or price, but im 99.9% certain that all tripod threads are the same :)

Hi Shaun, and welcome to the forum

As Sony_SoFar says, tripod threads are indeed universal. There are about 1,000 different models of tripod on the market, which is about one tenth of the number of opinions as to which is the best.

Can you give us a bit more info? What is it you want to take pictures of? For the price you quote, you should be able to get a pretty good basic tripod that will support your Finepix in most conditions. Any of the high street stores will have a selection at that price. You could take the camera along and try it out on a few, perhaps?

Thanks for replying, im after a tripod that allows you to mount your camera at the top then tilt/move from the top to say macro shots like insects or flowers, ill be using the tripod for all types of shots not specifically 1 field of interest i just like to have that little bit of flexability should i ever need it, does that help a little more?

whats peoples views or oppinions on bridge cameras? how do people rate fujifilm finepix? im a total novice to this so sorry to be a pain in the backside to anyone, but i want to get used to a bridge camera then in the future move up to a dslr.

again, any help or tips will be appreciated.

Regards
Shaun

I have just bought my self a Hama 4214Traveller Compact Pro with 3D Ball Head tripod and it seems to be a very good piece of tripod :D
It allows you to set the camera a the top as well as at the bottom, it's steady, use a Ball head, Im very happy with this product.

It was 40quit on amazon with delivery.

Bridge cameras, hmm... I think it's a good starting point in photography world, gives you ability to mess around with M-settings ISO etc. However sometimes Bridge cameras cost well to much. I've seen people buying Bridge cameras for a price of low-end DSLR. But its all up to your need, I suppose.

I think photography is about been creative and thoughtful more than owning the best gear. A good camera kit does not mean you're a good photographer.

Universal, as in either 1/4 or 3/8 (inches) :)
The 1/4W (Whitworth, an old British thread, quite a coarse pitch) is the most widely used by far out of the two. Large or medium format (film) cameras sometimes have a 3/8W bush.
