Beginner's flash question

Just after a little advice regarding flashguns. I would like to try a little flash photography (both on and off camera) and so I'm looking to purchase a flash gun. I think I'm leaning towards a Nissin Di622 as used ones are relatively affordable and they seem to be well regarded.

Before I purchase one though I do have a few questions.

What does a Nissin not do, that a more expensive Nikon (e.g SB600) can do?

If I do go for the Nissin, should I be looking for a MK2 version? And if so what is the difference in simplistic terms?

I like macro shots, would I need a seperate ring flash for this stuff or can one purchase adaptors etc to convert a regular flash? Or indeed will a regular flash be fine as it is?

If it's important, the camera is a Nikon D5000.

I have the Nissan Di622 for my D80, prior I had a Metz af58. The Metz had far more functionality and customise settings but the Nissan is a good entry level strobe. It has swivel and rotation, some manual settings and can be used of camera. If you want to dabble with out the cost it's a good start but if you think it something you will really get into maybe spend a bit more.

The Main difference that I think I found when I was looking was that High Speed Sync probably doesnt work, also I'm not sure how the CLS will link with those aftermarket flashes.

Cheers foe this. Afraid I don't quite follow though. I haven't done any flash photography at all up to this point. What is high speed sync and CLS?

Thanks for your reply. I am at the stage of wanting to have a play rather than knowing it will play a big role. It might be used once and then never touched again or it may never be off the camera. I'll likely buy used so that I shouldn't lose too many £'s if I sell it on again.
