Having been given £100 for Christmas, I thought Id like something to go with my set up, I have been toying with the idea of a macro lens, I know its not likely to get me a great deal but can anyone recommend a good macro lens with in my budget perleaseeeeeee. :shrug:
 
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 + cheap no contacts extension tubes.

You don't need expensive tubes because the 50mm has an aperture ring (and macro is manual focus anyway). Set the camera to aperture priority and select the aperture with the aperture ring.
 
You're not gonna get a real macro lens for £100. The cheapest is probably the Sigma 50mm at ~£140 used. I've seen a few 105mm go for £200 which looks like a good deal.

Kenko extension tubes are about £140, almost as much as a macro lens. I ordered a Raynox DCR 150 since I have heard great things about it and didn't fancy splashing out. I like that it can be used on any size thread up to 67mm. I can report on its functionality once I receive mine :)

I would definately go for a Raynox Julian.

Maybe the 250 instead of the 150.

It'll sit straight onto your zoom lenses giving you varying degrees of magnification.

I got the DCR 250 before I got my tamron 90mm and it gives you the chance to play with a low DoF before splashing out on a dedicated macro lens.

Not sure about extension tubes are they anymore diddly than changing a normal lens?

they're exactly the same - you fasten the lens into the extension tube like you fit the lens into the camera body. Then you fit the lens and extension tube combination to the body as a single unit, same as fitting any other lens (only longer) :)

I ordered the above just after you posted ths, I managed to get the lens and tubes for £80, it looks so weird having such a small lens on the body. I hope to get some shots taken later with it.
