looking to buy either a benbo trekker 3 with a ben299 ballhead or a manfrotto 190xprob with a mn496rc2.To be used with 100mm,70-200 2.8is and 17-85 on a 450d.Any advice ,suggestions or if have comments.thanks in advance

I have the 190prob myself, fantastic tripod, versatile and easy to use, though I think with the glass your planning on putting on it I would go up a notch and get the 055prob

I've had them both......and i now have the carbon version of the 190. The benbo is a good tripod it was just tooo much fafing about for me, there very different beasts and you'd be best off trying each before you buy.

I have an 055 and a 190. They are very similar tripods other than the special horizontal pole. Without the pole the 190 feels like a light weight version of the 055 with narrower poles and a little shorter etc. Both tripods are very very good and I would happily use either of them as a main tripod. I couple them with a 222 joystick head.

I had a trekker for quite a few years, and when it came to replacing it decided to get another. The second one just wasn't up to the quality of the first. They had also added a new 90degree thing at the top which made it more prone to wobbling. I returned it and bought a Gitzo. Glad I did!

I have the Benbo and it's a great tripod, not very compact but very stable and very adaptable. Not the easiest thing to learn to use though.

The 90deg bar was my attraction point. How bad was the wobble?

I had a Manfrotto 055 and I found it very frustrating as I just couldn't get it into the positions I wanted. I now have a Benbo and I wish I'd bought it years ago. I have the additional centre column bracket and I have no handling or set up problems at all and it's even more stable than my previous Manfrotto.

I use a Giottos ball head and a Manfrotto geared head with the Benbo which also has the 90 deg joint, I have no problems with it.

I just found it more wobbly than the earlier version without it. Nor did it seem to me that it was as well made as the first one I had.

Otherwise I found the Trekker a doddle to use. It may seem strange after a normal tripod but you would get used to it.

Apart from the comments like "Oh, I thought you had some bagpipes there"!
