Hi folks,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of the Benro Travel Angel 2 tripod - the one where the centre can be used along with one of the legs to form a monopod?

I'm looking to replace my heavy Manfrotto with something lighter and more compact (when folded away) and this looks like a good choice to also replace the monopod I lost when my car caught fire.

Hopefully someone will have some real world experiences to share with me :)
 
Just sold one Steve, it's a very useful unit, light as it's carbon fibre and as you say able to be used as tripod or monopod. The ballhead can't be replaced with larger units so it's not suitable for really heavy kit but I used it with the D3 and 14-24 without problems.
The bottom legs are a bit thin and you would think it would be flimsy but I found it to be a pretty stable piece of kit and there is a centre weight-hook if you need to secure it even more. It was the 'weapon of choice' when quickly popping out with the thought that I might get to use it.
I sold it to get one of the big 'legs only' carbon fibre units.
In essence a good buy for general use, probably not for a very windy day or the side of a mountain.
 
I bought gramps' old one, it was the baby in the range (mistake 1 - didn't realise there wa s arange!) and therefore can't take a different head. The legs are spindly but very strong, as a travel tripod then it's certainly one of the best, but couldn't out sturdy my Slik. I'm now opting for a bigger version of the same thing, which should be just right.

I am also considering a Calumet 8156 which looks to be similar but without the monopod conversion, toruble is the specs are a bit absent as are other owners....
 
While I don't have the specific travel angel model you mention I do have a Benro C-268 tripod and the J2 ball head.

The ballhead is excellent quality, never slips, even with gripped 7D & sigma 150-500 on board. The tripod is light, legs twistlock easily & don't slip.

I'd recommend Benro, I've also got a GH2 gimbal which is also great value for money.

ATM I'm thinking of buying some really heavy duty Benro legs to accomodate a Canon 500mm lens, the price seems half that of Gitzo!
 
Thanks for the input, guys. Details are a bit thin on the ground and retailers even thinner :)

I guess I'm looking for one with the bigger ball head to take my gripped D300 and Sigma 150-500. Either that or I carry on with my really heavy Manfrotto tripod and buy a new monopod.

Oh, I hate making decisions :)
 
Though I'm usually wary of ebay I got mine from DC's photography store on ebay.

I think other TP'ers have had positive experiences buying from them too.
