Hi Guys,
Call me stupid if you like, but i have a problem.
I purchased a Vosonic for downloading my compact flash cards while on holiday.
Unfortunately i have bent the pins in the card slot and i
am now looking to have this repaired.
I have contacted the company which sold it but they seem to be a bit on the slow side to reply.
Does anyone know if this is a big job or who could probably sort this out for me and at what sort of cost is involved.

i think that is a bit of a drastic measure to take with a brand new £400 bit of kit dont you.:thumbsdown:
 
How bent are the pins? can you not pull them back straight with a small screwdriver?
 
Dave, I used the inside of a biro, inverted and a pair of long nosed tweezers to straighten the pins on my reader, its very fiddly, but with a bit of patience it worked and saved it.

It's not a big job at all. A small flat bladed screw driver should do the job. :)
 
Just be careful because if they are very badly bent, then bending them back may cause them to break!

+1 for this. Used to work a treat on bent CPU pins also!

I bought a cheap Tesco card reader and screwed up an 8Gb Extreme 3. They said that I used excess force. When I pointed to the documentation that said, use firm and even pressure they didn't care.

I guess you get what you pay for.

accidental damage cover on your house insurance? Though I have unbent many pins when i was fixing laptops with needle nose tweezers or small flat headed screw drivers.
 
If you can't bend them back you may as well try snapping them off to see if it works because they'll have to replace the board the card reader is soldered to if you send it off for repair.
 
Just bend them back using a micro screwdriver. Don't snap them off, it will render the thing useless. All the pins are required for transfer on a CF card. Bend them back very carefully and you'll be fine. The pins are extremely flexible if you bend them slowly...

What you like at soldering ?
or do you know any electronic engineers ?
Just a quick google round, show replacement CF sockets are available e.g. here and here

Dave,

Post some pics of the item and the bent pins so I can see the extent. Since you're a local lad, Id happily pop around and have a go fixing it for you, but it would cost you a cup of coffee :D
