I'm looking for best travel camera for Florida
We went a few years ago and only took a small compact, something I regretted every day I was their
It's just me and my 16 year old son going this time and well he wants all rides and insists on the old man going on with him
Me (the old man) wants Everglades, landscapes and close ish wildlife, oh and nearly forgot holiday snaps of me lad to bore all relatives and friends alike
I don't want to take me treasured 5d and lenses for obvious reasons and I don't want to take a compact again
Is it possible there is a In-between camera available these days to cover all
Would need a decent zoom, raw files and pretty robust
I don't mind carrying a small bag/ pouch
 
1dsII or III. They are pretty indestructible and a bit more affordable now. You could probably stun a croc with one and still cary on :) If you are going to treat them fairly rough so you don't want to take 5D I'm afraid nothing else will fit the bill
 
Have a look at the Sony DSC-RX10 - probably the best bridge camera currently available.
 
Might be worth having a look at the Fuji X range?
 
If you want an all-in-one-box solution, explore bridge cameras. They won't give you quite the same ultimate quality as an SLR but they can turn out decent prints up to A3+ size. I believe there are some bridges available now with 50x zooms, maybe even more.

I feel your pain with the need for a lighter kit. These days, weighing of hand baggage seems to be on the increase and allowances are falling. :( Last time I took the SLR kit it was significantly overweight so I had to transfer a few lenses into pockets for the weigh in! This year I'll be taking a much smaller kit - a Fuji X or 2 and just a couple of lenses. I might miss the ultra wide angles the FF system gives me but since we've visited the place before (several times!) I think I've shot all the angles by now.

I've just read the specs and a couple of reviews of this camera and it does indeed sound like a great travel companion, albeit quite expensive.

Over past hour or so read many reviews on the Sony Cyber-Shot RX10
Looks to be the camera perfect for my needs
We go in five weeks so better get me skates on now in finding the best price

Many I see ask why I don't take my 5D III
If I wasn't having go round universal studios and the likes and participate in the rides I would definitely take
The crowds, security with lockers, weight, rides/water in general safety of taking my equipment I wouldn't be happy and that's not even taking into account hand luggage allowance
Maybe in future I can go with my wife without the theme parks and a more leisurely time
 
When I travel, if I'm not there specifically to make photographs, I take a Fuji x100s. It's small, light and stupidly flexible with the most amazing image quality and a little jewel of a fixed 35mm equivalent lens. Great files and built like a tank.

A big part of going on holiday is to relax and enjoy yourself and I can't really do that when I'm carting around six metric f**ktonnes of DSLR and faffing with lenses, flashes and Goddess alone knows what else. So what if you might miss a few photos because you didn't have a zoom lens? Who actually cares? Along with a handful of batteries and memory cards, it's all I need to make good travel photos.

I've made more personally significant images with my little Fuji than I've made with any of my bigger kit because it's quiet, unobtrusive and I like using it.
 
Canon 100D with STM Lenses is the smallest lightest DSLR you can carry around with you or a top end compact like Canon Powershot GX1 Mark II or G16, or Fuji and sony have some good CSC cameras.
 
At the moment my take everywhere camera is a Canon G11 but I want to replace it as I am not happy with the high ISO performance. If I shoot at ISO400 or higher the image quality really suffers with lots of grain. I am thinking about the Sony Cyber-Shot RX10, Sony RX100 Mk2 or Canon G1x Mk2 or even a Micro 4/3 Olympus/Panasonic. This camera will live in my day bag with phone, wallet etc so it can't be too big. Any thoughts?
