Best batteries for speedlights?

Just wondered what you guys use.

I currently use the eneloops 2000mAh

As I have my first wedding coming up next week I need to invest in some extra sets and just wondered if theres any better option?

I am using VapexTech Instants in my YN467, getting 200-300 shots before I bottle it as charge them again. They are the same long shelf life type as the eneloops and come out better in a comprehensive test I read.

I did a wedding 3 weeks ago using Eneloops the same as yours and I had no problems whatsoever using a Canon 580EXII. It was a darkish day and hissed it down all day so the flash was used quite a lot.

I had two spare sets but never needed them.

Eneloops are a cracking battery name. Have them for different things and they have never let me down. I wouldnt use any other brand now.

Another fan of eneloops here. Pretty much last all day in my SB900's.

It may be worth investing in a decent charger to make the most of them and prolong their life. Just an idea.

I use Eneloop and Uniross Hybrio (also low self discharge) in my Speedlite, they work great and last ages. I charge in a Technoline BL700 charger, which is a fancy intelligent one that can refresh batteries to keep them in top condition.

Can the eneloop batteries be charged in a standard charger or do they need a special one?

I've got an Energiser battery charger for my 2450mAh AA batteries. Would the eneloop batteries charge with this?

I do not use this type of battery so much in photography, but in another hobby (RC flying) I used to. I used to use a lot and their correct function was more critical.

My and other club and forum members' findings were -

You may get longer function initially from the very high capacity cells (> 2200mAh) but they were -

less likely to meet their nominal capacity.

likely to last fewer charge/discharge cycles.

more prone to premature failure.

We found that the optimum seemed to be at most 2000mAh. with Sanyo (including Eneloops) being the best. Vapextechs were also gaining a good reputation.

We've got 5 sets of the eneloop, we use in 4 speedlights. Had them for about a year, with the sanyo charger & can't complain at all. Wouldn't use anything else as these do the trick, hold their charge etc

Eneloops for me too. I have tried others but they have resulted in a dud every now and then. I have 10 x packs of four Eneloops that have been used without fault over 18 months. Worth the extra in my opinion.
