Yes
My other half is quite creative and really keen to get into photography "properly". We're getting a 7D to complement the 5D2 and she will be using that mainly. She'd like a book to read that teaches her about the camera but wants something more than a glorified user manual. In particular, something that teaches her about how aperture, shutter speed and ISO affect the look of the photo and why she may want find the different custom functions useful.

I've spent a good hour trawling Amazon and most 7D for dummies style books seem to be in plenty of detail of how to set different options but a bit thin on the ground for the aperture/shutter/ISO triangle and when you might want to use different modes.

Any suggestions for which is the best of the bunch?

It may not be exactly what she wants, can remember if there's a lot about when you use different modes, but I found Digital Exposure Handbook by Ross Hoddinott useful for understanding the more technical side of photography ... so maybe worth a look?

Thanks for the suggestions. She's more of a book person so she can read and reread at her own pace (I on the other hand spend my time trawling the internet for my information :). The exposure book looks good and gets good reviews. Perhaps I should look at that plus a 7D for dummies style book.

Any more suggestions?

a 7D for dummies style book.

Just about any 7D book will be really for dummies and tell you zero about custom functions. Understanding Exposure by Byan Peterson, the 7D manual, PotN and the B+H videos should be a great combination for learning all the technical bits.

Just my opinion, but I didn't find that great for a true beginner.

OK, so I think we're sorted for a book (Digital Exposure Handbook seems good from what I've read) for exposure etc.. which of the 7D specific books are good (I really want a book rather than online videos).

The Lowrie Field Guide looks good. Anyone any opinions?

Presumably it's not just for her but also for you, otherwise as the user of a 5D2 you'd be able to explain all this to her?

No... I'm quite happy with the camera (I do do internet videos and have my head around it all now ;)) just it would be like teaching someone close to you how to drive - she needs to learn in her way and at her pace, not with me as the teacher.
