Right I feel this may have been asked a million times so if so I'm sorry!

I need a tripod before this weekend as I'm going on a trip to the countryside to take some photos, I need a tripod, and have around 50 quid. Seen in another thread the redsnapper ones - are these any good?

I know it's better to spend more and get one that will last longer but the truth is i literally can't afford it this week.

Any help will be appreciated

Robbie

I don't have a Redsnapper, but they get excellent feedback here. The RS-283 tripod and RSH-24 3-way head is on special offer for about £49. Sounds like a very good buy, and I don't think you'll find anything to beat that on price or quality. A ball head is going to cost more, but you can always add one later if you want to.

Yeah thats the one I'm looking at, with the provision o upgrading to head to a ball head. And tbh there's not a lot more you can get for 50 pound out there!

Seen an ad in one of the current monthlies for the Giottos 3-way head kit for £70, will try and dig it out when I get home. I bought this a few years back (for significantly more!), after comparing it directly with the equivalent Manfrotto, and the Giottos was the better built of the two in my opinion.

I would avoid the likes of the Manfrotto Modo Maxi, I bought one of these for £50 last year and although it fits the bill of lightweight and reasonably stable, it's just too floppy for long exposures. Sold it after not very long.

UPDATE: here's the Giottos on Amazon for £68.52, appreciate it's a tad over your budget.

I'm really stuck! Im wanting a ball head but if I'm honest...tight/skint!

Go with the redsnapper and 3 way head for £50, it's within your budget and is a good tripod for the price.

Have to agree with going for the Redsnapper.
Got mine last week (3-way head) and impressed by the quality and service.

Three way heads are fine, for the time being anyway. You can always buy a ball head later if you want one. I know they're very popular, but I'm not blown away by them. Get the Redsnapper or another good brand if you do decide to get one, because the very cheap ones tend to slip if you put much load on them, in my experience.

What Martyn says about the three-way head is spot on, ballheads seem like a great idea, but are more awkward to set accurately, and cheap ones aren't worth the hassle. I went for a ball head that was rated far higher than my outfit weighs, purely because it felt the most robust in the shop.

Iv took the plunge and gone for the red snapper on offer!

look on fleabay
I got a really sturdy Cullmann (German) that retails for about £120 for a tenner. Hardly used as new and boxed.
Saw plenty of other bargains there but also have a look at the for sales on here as you may pick up something.

I made the mistake of buying a £50 tripod from one of the big electrical retailers. There is so much slop on it that I might as well hand hold.
