I am looking for a walkabout lens (i know there is a compromise throughout the range with these type of lenses). I have a 350d and am looking for something 2nd hand that I can use whilst on holiday and doing family events. I'm hoping to get something in the range of 18mm-200mm, im willing to spend £250 or less. Any recommendations?

You might get the non OS sigma for that but personally I'd save the extra and get one with stabalisation as it really is a bonus in these lenses.

do you have any specific models for the sigma that you could recommend, os and non os

Canon 17-85 IS EFS. Can get a new one for about 280 (they seem to be split from the 40/50d kits). Excellent lens, is a little heavy.

I know its a bit shorter than what you want, but the one I'm considering at the mo is the Sigma 18-125 which does have OS. Its about £225 brand new depending where you buy it from.

Being a budget walkabout lens, make sure it has a good pair of boots on.

has anyone got any experience with Canon Lens EF-S 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 IS? I may be able to stretch my budget a bit!

I can give the Sigma 18-200mm OS a nod. I've got one in the Nikon mount and it's a great walkabout'er. Invaluable last year in Italy and as well last month in Madrid. Go for the OS version - far better and worth the extra.

You should be able to pick a minter up 2nd hand for around £250 or less if you're patient...

Just my 2p's worth ;)

ok, so ive done a bit more research and have narrowed (or widened!) it down to the following lenses.

Canon EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS

Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC Lens

Canon 17-85 IS EFS

Sigma 18-200mm OS

Can anyone offer any recommendations out of these 4? Much appreciated!

LOL, always the way :)

I can't offer advice (except get a nifty fifty if you haven't already), but just had to say how awesome the 350D is! Loved that camera to bits.

Edit: have a look on Fred Miranda, review section. Always worth reading.

i've got a nifty fifty, been playing around with it, havent had a chance to fully test it out yet.
