Hey guys,

With being due my phone upgrade next month I wanted to see what peoples opinions were as to what is currently the best camera phone out there - crazily I only really use my phone for texts, calling and taking the odd photo (when im not wanting to carry around my DSLR).. I'm not fussed in the slightest about apps and games..

As always online theres a conflict between websites - some say the Nokia Lumia 1020 comes out on top, others say the Galaxy S4 and others the IPhone 5..

So I thought I'd ask you guys here and see if there was general concensous? :D

Any advise appreciated

The Sony Xperia Z1 or Zultra (its 21mp)

The Sony Xperia Z1 or Zultra (its 21mp)

It could be 201MP and that would only make it even worse with the sensor of that size. 3-4mp is max, tops.

Can you get something tiny like fuji x20 or x100 instead?

I've got a Samsung Note 2 and the camera is not too bad but the video side of things has poor AF and often goes out of focus for no reason.

if I could afford it i'd definitely go for the nokia lumia 1020, very good camera and lens.

I'm using another windows 8 phone and like the OS!

But is it a good phone, which is surely more important?

That depends on what you class as a 'good phone' - for me all im bothered about is texting, making calls and being able to take good quality pictures

Thanks to everyone else for their input as well - after looking at some reviews online as well im going to have a look around and see if I can get a deal for the Lumia 1020 - fingers crossed :D

That reviewer clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

He has no concept of depth of field or how it works - three times he hailed the iphone for having a lot in focus and then praised the nokia for "recognising that they only wanted the foreground in focus". He also used a clearly out of focus image for the manhattan at night test and then complained that there wasn't enough in focus.
IMHO it looks like he took jpgs from the iphone and raw files from the nokia without knowing the difference.

I looked at the images before seeing who he thought won and I said the opposite to him on pretty much every one :P
I personally think my iPhone 5 is more than good enough, I dont use it that often but have done in the past and in good light its great, when its dark its OK and thats about it but cant imagine many phone cameras are good in poor light. That being said I use my phone for a lot of things and at the minute wouldnt really contemplate anything other than an iPhone (or possibly Android)

Well I'm using a nokia lumia 620 right now which has the same OS. This is a very good phone and I really like the OS, Its very customisable and there are plenty of app choices. The better hardware on the 1020 can only be an improvement IMO

I have a 1020 and the camera is fab. However even though it clams to be a 41mp camera it does'nt provide files in 41mp instead it takes 2 pictures. One 5mp for sharing etc though your phone and a 36 mp image. The Camera apps are really good to.

I will admit the 36mp image is very nice for re-composition and you can 'zoom' into the image like something from CSI without loss of quality.

The phone itself is really nice physically and windows 8 is nice to (I came from android). I did look at Sony Z1 however I decided on the 1020 after watching a few drop tests and physically handling the phone.

My decision over the Z1 was justified as a friend got the z1 and within a week it broke from being dropped a few inches onto a desk. No external damage but the internals must have shifted.

While pricey for what it is, I am lucky enough to get 50% off my monthly contract so my monthly bill is £24 for Unlimited calls and text with 10gb of 4g data. If it wasn't for this discount I would have gone for something cheaper and older
