Best carry strap for a days sightseeing ?

Hi guys, looking for some recommendations. In a couple of weeks I going to London for 4 days sight seeing and will be taking my gripped D7000 with its 17-55 F2.8 attached (with a small lowepro sling back with another lens or two etc in it)

I've normally just used the straps that come with each camera, but rather than keep taking the D7000 in and out of the bag all day, I was thinking of keeping it out at at the ready so to speak. I think the standard strap will cut into my neck after a while, and probably won't be very inconspicuous.

Was wondering what other reasonably priced solutions there were. Ive been looking at the cotton carriers, which look nice but very expensive, and a mate has pointed me to Black Rapid straps, but I don't know much about them I need something that's both comfortable, reasonably priced but also very secure (not just from the camera dropping, but from theft as well).

Anyone any ideas please ?
 
As your mate pointed out, Black rapid......

R strap

or

R strap with integral steal cable if your feeling paranoid...

I have a single and a double and love it, would never go back to a regular strap....
 
+1 for Black Rapid.

Or buy a m4/3rds system for travelling like what I've just done.....

And if you look in the traders section;on here you'll find tp members get a discount. I've just bought a quick and safe strap from simon for £15 and the quality is not far off a black rapid at 3 times the price
 
I got the TP branded Op/Tech from here and I love it :)

Bought mine from an Ebay seller in Israel for considerably less than the RRP, attaches at two points although I just release one clip to use the camera, but that's not strictly necessary. Nice knowing it's securely fixed by the usual mounting points and allows use of a permanently fixed Q/R plate too.

I use the Op-Tech Dual Harness (WEX) as well as the regular Op-Tech pro.

The weight shifts to your shoulders rather than your neck, so you can wander about all day without a problem.
 
I've eyeballed the Black Rapid straps but what's holding me back from buying one is that I'm worried that the camera can swing relatively freely on one, which makes it vulnerable to smashing into something - or am I totally miscalculating the amount of free movement that it has on the strap?
 
ive got both a cheapy one AND a black rapid - to behonest they BOTH work well , they dont swing excessively so dont worry BUT what i do do, when im walking in a busy street is put it at a length were it sits to my hand nicley that way i 'hold' the lens to ensure no one knocks in to me or the camera... just being careful as you should always!

I've got an Op/Tech neck strap which does the job OK for me, but my camera is a m4/3 model so isn't really too heavy.
I've been thinking about a shoulder strap for ages as they look a bit more comfortable and easy to use, but I can't decide on which one to go for.

I use the OpTech pro strap. It is quite wide, but that helps to distribute the weight and makes it less likely to slip off, which is always good.

What they said. I just picked up the q-strap bundle with an upgraded hand strap. It is a really comfortable strap, much better than the nikon one for sure. I wear it like a sling over one shoulder with the camera on my right. That way I can slip my hand into the grip easily and the clip connection just slides up the strap such that the strap never really moves from my shoulder. I shoot a gripped D90 with anything from a 35 1.8 up to a 300/4 and the strap doesn't dig with any of them. Really nice set up for the price.

I wouldn't worry, I had my gripped 450D attached to one last year when going round the theme parks of Orlando and had no trouble.

The q-strap? I'd say definitely. The straps are 1" wide cordura/nylon so plenty strong enough there. There is plenty of sewn web at the 'ends'. The only place I could see a chance of failure is the metal, and only if it is cheaper metal (which I don't believe it is). I have a D90 with 300/4 + 1.4x kenco + SB600 hung on mine, so not far off what you're talking about with the D700. I don't expect any problems.

I purchased a black rapid sport last week to hang my gripped d300s and sigma 70-200 2.8 with TC, and have used it loads..to me thats the way to carry a camera now..no looking back.
 
I have used the Black Rapid for a couple of years now, both the single and the double straps (the latest bought was the RS-Sport).
They are just perfect! :thumbs: :thumbs: :thumbs:

Black Rapid here too, been using one for 2 years + and love it.

Not ever having tried a Q-strap, I can't compare...

I got a Sunsniper Pro Steel and Bear at Focus and so far its been great, its got a steel wire through the strap as well as a little springy suspension bit to help with any bounce

Should be fine,you either put it in on the body or tripod collar.
Never used the Q straps,so can only say about Black Rapid :)

+1 I had my gripped D7000 with 70-200 f2.8 on all day yesterday on my black rapid rs7. Connected to the tripod collar on the lens for that combination. It was ever so comfortable and the balance works out really well as well. Absolutely brilliant.

I used one every day for a week at an event and it's superb, and it will cost you £15!
 
The black rapid is real nice but I was sent a single q strap last week, with octopus style shoulder "padding" and it is actually very capable. As it is effectively the same, potentially more comfortable, than my 2011 double q straps, I'd say it'd do you a treat if you wanted to save pennies and still get the job done well.

I used it with a 5D MK2 and 70-300L lens, which is quite a heavy setup and it was super comfy. All my mates have them and love them.
 
tbh...

I do wonder why people pay 2k for a camera and a lens then want to find a cheap 20 quid strap....

The strap may cost 20 quid, but its extremely well made and great value. It's also a more realistic price for a strap.

I agree totally....no matter which strap you use (I use Black Rapid) you shoud still hold the camera/lens whilst in a busy public area..:cool:
 
+1 for the Black Rapid. I have the 4. It may not look like it but models are very different. The 7 has a strange adjustment arrangement. They are expensive but what isn't in photography...
