My Mother wants a compact camera for christmas and the budget is £100, May go slightly over if its for the right item

I have zero knowledge about compacts so I'm completely at a loss when looking online if I'm honest so I turn to you guys and girls for advice :)

.She wants it to be relatively slim (to fit in a pocket)
.Be good for both indoor and outdoor use
.Have a decent zoom yet still be able to do close ups
.A battery cartridge rather than use normal batteries
.Use an SD card if possible.

I know these seems like she wants a moon on a stick but it's worth a shot :)

I keep looking at canons as thats what the rest of us use...

Try the Nikon or Panasonic range.

Earlier in the year I picked up a Canon ixus 500 which I was pleasantly surprised by. It is a very compact camera with a decent zoom range and delivers decent results. It is much smaller than some of the equivalent models by other manufacturers which was part of the appeal for me. It has been replaced by the 510 which you should be able to did within your budget.

got my sister a Fuji t400 from Fuji online shop , and she is very happy with it
10x zoom lens ,decent quality
