Best compact that has good DoF

Others will correct me but I'm not sure such a thing exists, at least not for sensible money.

For shallow DoF you need a big sensor and a fast lens, compacts with such things only have wide lenses.

Yep, two competing ideals here. For a big zoom range you need a small sensor to keep it compact, but for background defocus you need a bigger sensor.

It surely has to be the RX100 mk3 with it's 1" sensor and f2.8 maximum aperture?

If your budget reaches to it then the RX100iii is the best choice by distance, if you can't stretch then the mk1 or mk2 are a good chunk cheaper (more so if you don't mind buying second hand).

Fuji X10/20, has a fast 2.0 - 2.8 lens, and a largish sensor :-), great shallow depth of field !
