At the moment I rely on burning disks and either posting or people picking them up from home to get images back to base. Most shoots end up being under 900mb once JPEGed but just wondering what upload/download websites people recommend?

Yousendit is an obvious one for a fee, as is Dropbox.... are there any others that excel in transferring files of this size?

Also, easy access for the recipient is crucial - how easy are these things to use for laymen? Ones without software (i.e. and online interface) mean better mobility when the recipients re out and about but aren't essential... so long as downloading files is an easy process I'm happy :)

If you have your own website/domain, you could use FTP. Upload to your Domain via FTP, then send the link to the file/folder via email. Your client clicks on the link and a download begins. I also use Smugmug this allows gallery downloads
 
I'd say FTP doesn't really fit in with the requirements for being easy for the end user, if it's any more complicated that clicking on a link it will cause trouble.

I've found Dropbox to be good for sending lots of files zipped together, but for individual shots Photoshelter's instant download tool is good.

The poster suggested FTPing to your own website then sending a link to the end user.
 
Have done a trial with a few 500mb folders through dropbox and no-one's heads have imploded back at base, so for the moment it seems that might be the solution we needed...

does your host use cPanel as the control panel, then you could download that way. if you have windows xp you can mount it into windows explorer :), just my 2 pence

Cpanel. Host. Window. XP..... so much I don't undertstand :lol:. BTW, we're mac-based :)
 
I use Sendspace it's free and works 100%
