Best lens for product photography

I am wondering what would be the best lens for product photography.

I am currently using the kit lens that came with my Canon 600D but would like to upgrade to get sharper images (the slow auto focus is also really annoying).

I am taking pictures of small products, such as mens accessories, ties, handkerchiefs etc.. Top down, using a tripod with a horizontal arm.

If there's any more info I can give that would help, please ask.

I think that the normal recommendation would be a TS-E45 for an APS-C sensor (like your 600D) but it would be manual focus and possibly not what you're really looking for.
Maybe an EF100 f/2.8 Macro lens (or a third party equivalent) would satisfy your needs.

Speedy autofocus is not necessary for product photography, the subject is not moving. Manual Focus or back button focussing is preferable to AF for product photography.

I trust the auto-focus on my camera more than my ability to eye-ball it. That is why I'm looking for a good auto focus. I understand what you're saying though. I'll have to try it out. I am looking for the best possible results. I thought it might be the lens, if it's something else, I'm more than willing to explore that.

I use 1 soft box, continuous light. I am reading up on lighting now as to what would be the best set up. The light is about 2ft away from the item at a 45 degree angle, if that makes sense!

I don't use a product tent.
 
sigma dp3, if it meets your macro needs, if not then 60 to 105mm macro lens

or tilt shift lens and tubes

sigma would give you crazy sharpness, focus acuracy and 1.3 macro (more with add on lenses)
