Best lens for Raynox 250.

Hi,
I want to get the Raynox 250, I already have the nikon 50mm 1.8. All my other lens have 77mm thread so it wont fit. Looking for IQ more than anything. I did have the nikon 105 VR but wasn't used as much so I sold it, so want a cheap macro lens and the Raynox fits the bill. Any info would be great.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the 100-200 range is good?? (I have the raynox and the 55-200 lens but haven't tried them together yet)
 
There's nothing to touch the Raynox for £40. Thousands of great photos on this Flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/raynoxdcr250/ It will be sharpest around f/8-11.

It works fine on any lens over about 50mm (it can vignette at less) like a kit zoom but a 50-200ish lens gives more flexibility on framing and shooting distance.

The info I wanted to know was is using 50mm better than using 55-200mm or 70-300mm for IQ because I don't have a long lens with a small filter size 70-200 and 24-70. Thanks
 
I wouldn't think there would be much difference in the IQ between the 50mm lens and a telephoto, but obviously with something like a 70-200 you can be a little further away from the subject which could help with the light as you're less likely to block it if you're further away.
I would guess that using a fixed lens like the 50mm would mean that you have to be a certain distance from what you're photographing whereas with a longer lens you could sit slightly further back which could be useful if your focus point may be likely to run away if disturbed.

I'm going to be ordering a Raynox on payday and I will probably be using it on my 55-250mm lens. I'm planning to use it on bugs and butterflies mostly so I need to stay as far away from them as possible so that I don't disturb them. I do have my 18-55 kit lens and a 50mm to use it on as well though so I'll be trying it out with all of them.
