Best lens for...

Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 - plenty wide and fast for general goings on, and Canon 70-200 f2.8 if live band sots float ya boat.

I am sure I will be going against the grain here but I just shot the school I work at's prom and have to say that some of the best shots I got were with my ultra-wide 12-24mm... Unfortunately you have to really shove it in peoples face's to get the best out of it in this scenario! I also used my 24-70mm quite a bit and got some great shots with that.
