Hi Guys.

I have a Canon EOS 500D as well as the kit lens (18-55mm) and the Canon 10-22 mm.

Id like to add some new lenses and the first I have my eye on is of course the 50mm f1.8 (cheap and does the business with sharp pictures I understand and great for portraiture).

Id also like to add another couple of lenses to do the following:

(a) Something decent for close up shots (whether that be Macro or otherwise). Just something with a good close up capacity; and
(b) A decent telephoto lens (as you can see all I have right now is 55mm at most) so something with some close up capablity (ie maybe 200).

The third alternative is a good allrounder.

Price wise I think id be willing to spend £400-600 for the two lenses (ie not counting the 50mm).

Any thoughts? Lots of people go on about L glass but how much of a difference does it make?

Any thoughts/tips welcomed.

Cheers

I second the nifty two fifty (ie 55-250mm IS) and would also buy the Tamron 17-50 (non VC). New = £400, used = £300 for both. Then flog the kit lens which is what I done a couple of weeks back.

The Canon 55-250IS is a cracker of a lens for the money. Then there is the 70-300IS (not the L) which is very good.

Then you can jump again to the L lenses, the 70-200 F4 is an absolute belter and up you go in price if you want IS or a 2.8 version of these.

Depends on budget left after your Macro lens and how much you want to spend.

third vote for the 55-250 IS, the 70-300 is cheap without IS but not that great (owned and sold one in a short space of time)

70-200L f4 would be pleasing, these are going for under £500 preowned now arent they? possibly a bit on the highside of what your budget is, but the L on this lens is there for a reason - it's hot stuff
