Best lens to add to current line up?

It's in my sig, but I'll add here anyway.
My current lens lineup is 50mm f/1.8, 55-200mm, 85mm f/1.8, 24-70mm f/2.8.

Now, do I go for?
60mm Macro
Tamron 90mm Macro
35mm f/2.0
Or another prime that is either good with extension tubes on, OR has Macro technology, also thinking about Fifty f/1.4 but that'll be as well as any other lens, once money allows.

I'd love a sharp lens, problem with the 35mm is my 24-70 covers that range, I have an 85mm so the Tamron Macro seems a waste, and the 60mm Macro seems silly for same reason, cos I have the Nifty.

I tog pets, and do quite like a wide angle lens, sometimes, but my 24-70mm statisfies me nicely on that front :)

Any ideas on the best?

I am not sure which lens you should get next but if you want a macro then i can say yes to the Tamron SP90, great macro lens plus this will be a pin sharp portrait lens for you too.

Well the 85mm Minimum focus distance is 85cm, so not really a macro lens, the tamron 90mm f2.8 minimum focal distance is nearly 3x better (@ 29 cm) giving true macro ratio of 1:1 so its not a waste if you are going to use it.

What about a 70-200mm to significantly improve that area..or the Nikkor AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8 G ED N or Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX for your wideangle shots ... it really depends on your budget
 
I'd quite like a prime for my next lens - atm the budget is non existant [holding out for a new body atm] but I just have no idea what to get, cos of the focal distances I currently cover, compared to the lenses I am liking.

I was also thinking about a fisheye, but unsure again cos I have the 24mm, so if I, say, got a 20mm - that's not much different, again.

Bu the Tamron does look a fabulous lens!
 
In your original post, the word Macro keeps cropping up, making me think that you really want a proper Macro lens. You then go on to reject 2 of your choices since they are close to primes you already have, although your current primes aren't macro. Of your listed choices, I would (and have) go for the Tamron 90mm Macro, although it won't AF on your D40x (not a real problem with Macro since MF is a better bet anyway but I would also add a couple to the list to consider - the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro (that was the other Macro lens on my shortlist - the Tamron came up locally 2nd hand before the Sigma) and the Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 VR Macro which is AF-S so will AF on the D40x.

At the wide end, 4mm is quite a difference in angle of view so you really will notice the difference between 20mm and 24mm. I would suggest a Nikkor 18-70, as supplied as a kit lens with the D70 - getting on a bit now but still well worth having if you shoot Dx. Fisheyes are wider still; the Sigma 4.5mm apparently gives a full circular 180 degree image on a Dx sensor while their 8mm does the same for Fx and 35mm film.
 
I'm selling my D40x, cos I don't use it anymore, I know it wouldn't focus.

I meant to say, I'm trying to avoid DX lenses as I'd like to keep my current line up for when I go full frame.

But I think it seems like the 90mm is best bet, I just thought it was way too close to the 85mm, but I do see the difference comes in focusing distance, it's the one thing I dislike about the 85mm!

To me it sounds like you really don't have a clue what you want so you need to stop thinking about specific lenses and think first about the kind of photography you want to do with it.

Do you want a wide angle, macro, portrait prime or a zoom longer than you already have. Answer that question then look in to what lenses cover the task it needs to do.
 
I'd agree with Rob I wouldn't go buying primes without knowing what you want to do with them, you'd be much better off with some different or better zooms to explore your options. In most cases the primes don't offer a massive advantage over the zooms anyway.

Yes I know there's one non Macro in there. Basically, the 35mm is in there because I've seen this is a cracking lens, and is a very good price.
And as stated in my first post, I EITHER want a Macro, or alens that'd do OK with extension tubes, hence the 35mm focusing distance as well, then, focal length wise - I don't care for either/or of those lengths if it's a Macro lens, as I can compromise/shouldn't really matter for me.

I do also prefer some primes over zooms, hence my choices being primes :)
