Best Nikon for low light performance

This may have been asked before do apologies. But which Nikon dslr would have the best, I.e. Lowest noise low light performance?
Or, rank Nikon's best in order.
I can only say how impressed I am with my d700. Upto ISO 3200 is very acceptable.
There seams to be divided opinion on the d800's low light performance, so if/when I get one of these, will the low light performance be much better?
Or, if low light were my thing, would I be better off with a d3s?
 
Oh what a simple question - can you hear the can of worms creaking Robert?
I'm very pleased with the performance of my D800 but if I didn't use the 36mp I'd take the D3s.
I suspect that someone will be along soon who will explain how comparing noise performance between the D3s and the 800 is not as straightforward as you might think.
Upscaling is involved........

The improvement between my d300s and d700 was something like a stop and a half. Much more than ISO 1100 and things got unpleasant with the d300s.
You'd expect a d4 to be better than a d3s but maybe not. Maybe the d4s will bring the improvements that we got between the d3 and d3s?
 
D3S is still the king regardless of the resolution

Google D3S V D800 or any other combination and under the results look for the snapsort website listing, go to the site and click the specifications tab and at bottom of page is the High ISO result, the higher the number the better, nothing comes close to the D3S, not even the D800, D4 or Canon 1DX

D3s in my opinion. My D610 is supposed to be better at low light (according to DXO sensor tests), but it's not even close - the D610 isn't even in the same ballpark. I've used D200, D300, D3, D7000, D3s and D610, and I'd rank D3s well ahead of D3, in turn well ahead of D610.
 
Seen images from the Df, and I'd say they're marginally better than the D4. D3S is good too. Followed by the D800. Seriously though, there's not that much in it between them all up to 6400.

Remember though, that the lower resolution of some of those cameras gibes an impression of lesser noise, as those are 100% crops. The second RAW file test is a more realistic interpretation of real world performance. Not much in it. The D4 really comes into it's own at higher still ISO.
