Best Nikon Lens for capturing fireworks

Hi guys and girls I am hoping to be able to get some good pics of the fireworks this year but would like to know what lens would be best and also the best way to go about getting them standout pics.

I currently have a 35mm 1.8g, the 18-55 kit lens and a 55-200mm Nikon VR lens.

Cheers for any advice.
 
i definitely think it's technique. If you look at my flickr page there are some firework shots there taht were my first proper attempt at fireworks. I read somewhere before to treat it like daylight but with longer exposure. You don't need fast glass as the fireworks provide the light which seems a bit counter intuitive but it worked. Manually set the focus. Frame the shot as you want to see it and then ISO100 and F11 ish. I think most were at 2.5 to 4 secs bulb exposures. Don't look through the eyepiece, watch the display and capture what you see.

Any reasonable lens with the right field of view for your location (this will vary a lot). Probably a zoom. AND A GOOD TRIPOD. Settings if you must ask are around ISO 100 f/16 and a few seconds as needed.
 
Hi

You can shoot with the 35 on a tripod if you know where they are and you're close.
Might be a little soft, but then you're going for movement and light, not crispness.

If they are a fair distance away, use your 55-200.

Mostly it's seeing where they will be, setting up... then between 1 sec and four.

If you are shooting in or near a town the skys might pick up light pollution too.

Just enjoy and take loads...

My fireworks set in case you'd like a look... I think most were the 100mm, a few with the 300mm. Mainly other peoples displays in Nov from the back window.

Edit: Oh and check the exif, gove you some ideas on settings... at least on the 100mm :)
