Best place to buy genuine Hoya CPL or alternative

Hi Guys I am looking to buy a 77mm CPL for my 10-20 siggy and was about to go for one of these here, however, I have read they're a lot of fakes about so just thought I would check here first before buying!

Alternatively are there any better options, although I don't really want to spend much more than the Hoya cost to be honest.

Camera King are usually pretty cost-effective for Hoya filters, and the UK importer/distributor for Hoya (Intro2020 here in Maidenhead) confirmed for me that they do sell genuine non-grey non-fake Hoya filters. Camera King are on Amazon marketplace, and they have their own web site; check both, because prices - and especially postage prices - aren't always the same in the two places.
 
Hi, thanks for your reply. However, they don't seem to have the pro1 cpl in 77mm listed :( I may have to take a gamble, but I don't know how to tell if it's fake or not?

Basically, you can't tell very easily, if at all. Fake ones may induce a slight colour cast, or may have less effective coatings and be more susceptible to flare, or may have a less durable coating and get scratched more easily, or may not be manufactured so well and have a tendency to cross-thread, or ...... You get the picture, I'm sure. If you had a genuine one and a fake side by side you might be able to work out the difference, but not necessarily even then.
 
Kenko are another alternative, I have one that is fine, in fact it's the same company as Hoya

In Japan everything is sold under the Kenko name

Yep. Kenko Pro 1 Digital filters are identical to Hoya Pro 1 Digital. But Kenko aren't officially imported into the UK, so if you're worried about fakes there's no way of knowing what the retailer is actually selling you.
 
Hi dellydel - i have purchased several hoya from the company you linked to and never had a problem - all come in sealed hoya cases and certainly seem genuine , but i suppose, how can you tell. I'm just waiting for another for my new 18-105. Wonder why you have reason to think they may not be genuine?

Mike - Thanks for the reassurance. I happened to read something that mentioned a lot of these filters that are selling cheap are in fact fake and the only way to guarantee is to pay like £100 from a reputable seller (Jessops, Wex etc.). Then researching more on the internet a lot of people report ending up with copies, hence why I am slightly wary. But of course it could all be hype that has just spread across the internet...

Anyway, I have took the plunge and gone with the one in my link!
