just after getting a bit more reach with my sigma 500mm and just wondering what peoples viiews were on tc regarding image quality makes,1.4x,1.7x1.7,2.0x etc thanks ,its on a nikon d750 by the way
 
With the Nikon 1.4 and 1.7 TCs you probably notice a slight loss in performance but IQs should be ok especially with 1.4x, but you'll notice significant drop in performance with a 2x TC ie speed of autofocus and focus hunting, slight to noticeable loss in quality depending on the subject and whether you nailed the focus, but it will all depend on the light conditions you're taking images in.

so would you suggest 1.4 max and how do the kenkos compare to the nikons anyone cheers
 
Not a nikon man, but friends have had no issues with either the 1.4 or 1.7x TCs. Not used the kenko TCs but many people have without any issues, although only 1.4 or 2x TCs. Not used a sigma 500mm but heard it's a good lens
 
It's only the canon TCs and bodies that have that issue, with nikon there's no f5.6 limit on their consumer bodies or f8 limit on their pro bodies
 
The advantage of the kenko ones is that they physically fit and work on more lenses than the Nikon or Sigma ones. Optically they are very good and generally on par with the Nikon ones.

Yep ... then after doing that the bloody thing still may not AF with it :( ... I know from experience ... still I solved the problem I got rid of the Sigma 500 :D

Best bet would be a Sigma TC if they do one, or a third party TC such as Kenko
 
I've used Sigma TC's both 1.4 and 2X with Sigma 150-500 and my current Sigma 120-300 f2.8 I also have a Canon 2X but found no difference between that and the Sigma 2X if that's of any help.

Thanks did you notice Any image qiality difference between thé 1.4 and 2. X
 
I have the sigma 1.4 tc which on my 120-300 is excellent and the sigma 2 x tc which is ok. The 1.4 is just as good as my Nikon 1.4, the sigma 2 x is not as good as the Nikon tc1.7 or tc 2iii. The Nikon's would have to be modified to fit on the siggy 500mm, I'd stick with a sigma 1.4tc
