Yes
Ok then, what is the best thing for whiplash apart from decent painkillers (which I have now) and trying to keep moving?

Someone decided it was a good idea to try and pass me while I was turning right at a junction straight into the drivers side door. So new door needed.

Sorry to hear about your accident Sue, good to hear that its just whiplash though ... not that thats a good thing to have, iykwim.
I found that for me, one of those heated 'wheaty bags' helped ease the muscles, taking it as easy as possible, (easy said I know), oh and not spending too much time looking down.
Hope you feel better soon

Been to the doctors this morning, got some decent pain killers which hopefully will help :) might have to look into one or maybe even two (one for matt as well cos he is as bad) of those heat bags though.
Thanks

2 Paracetamol, 2 Ibuprofen, washed down with 2 soluble aspirin. Good for what ails me :D

Glad you went to the docs though. Many people write whiplash off as a minor injury but it can be really serious with effects not showing until many years later.

My wife was in a low speed bump over 12 years ago, and she still has problems with her shoulder today.

been there, done that. not nice is it. glad your relatively ok.
the heated wheat bag thing worked well for me.
might be worth a visit to an oestopath/chiropractor in a week or two.
side impact can do more damage than rear impact, so i was told. blind git running a red light in my case some years ago.straight into the drivers front wing and door..
mine took a fair few weeks to cool down. fortunately no lasting damage , but treatment and advice from a specialist helped. a checkup by your insures too.i got a nice prezzy from his insurers , eventualy.

Well it would pay for the new cooker if nothing else. Been to the doctors got co-codamol (30/500) the stronger ones, and diclofenac so paracetamol covers and something stronger than Ibuprofen taken. Been intouch with car insurance company who will get intouch with a solicitor for us, that was them making the decision not use, just told them what the doctors had said. Not in it for the money really just want the whole thing sorting but money would be nice :)

Sorry to hear about your accident Sue, glad you are ok. Whiplash is nasty - keep yourself dosed up on the co-codamol and diclofenac. Together, they work well (although the codeine may bung you up somewhat!). A visit to an osteopath may be worthwhile. I got a whiplash injury 12 years ago and am still suffering from neck problems, but the osteopath works wonders.

Last year same thing happened to me.
i got a leaflet from the A&E department which included some exersices. i followed this and got over the whiplass quicker(its hard at first) than my passenger who didn't follow em. We both got the same pay out from the insurance company. its a standard claim these days. Other than that i got some soluble paracetamol from A&E.

Sorry to hear about your accident Sue ...

It seems you have done the right thing in going to the docs and considering a follow up ... (y) ... plenty of other advice here I cannot add to really except to say keep it exercised and warm ...

Hope it heals quickly ... ;)

:p

All i can say is Sue, the worst thing you and Matt can do is ingore this, you have already done the best thing and thats see someone that knows about these things, and gained some treatment, leaving it will cause massive issues in the future, i had an accident in 1998 and still suffer with neck and upper back pain from being left hanging upside down from the seatbelt ! It could have been worse though if i hadnt done something at the time !

Sorry to hear it happened and hope you both recover quickly :)

Sorry to hear about your mishap, hope both you and Matt are ok.
Have to agree with Ianc, still suffer myself every now and then, dread to think what would of happened had I not sought treatment at the time.
Try and do some carefull exercise and keep it warm (y)

Best thing there is to ease a Whiplash injury is a good lawyer :D.

I was hit nearly 20 years ago and was awarded the princely sum of £1750 for my pain / discomfort. I didn't have any permanent damage but it hurt & caused neck-stiffness for about a year.

I would have happily given the money back if they had an instant cure :)

*it did pay for a skiing holiday and a new HiFi ;)

6 months down the line from having 2 accidents (driven into twice in summer, within 2 weeks!) and I'm still feeling the effects... but that's more back-related than anything else!

They do say that the best thing is to keep it moving, but not too much. They used to give out neck braces though, until recently when they decided that they were doing more harm than good, lol.

I've been offered £1200 for my compensation ... but I just wish the solicitors would agree on who's handling my claim, let alone giving me money!

And yes, if there was an instant cure - I would happily have no money whatsoever.

Someone ran into me last September I went to the hospital and was then sent for Physio. It wasn't comfortable but did work when combined with some decent drugs. Much better if not quite perfect now.

hope you're both on the mend soon

might be enough for cooker and some glass with any luck

worst is the way they hang it out though
when do you get the car back?

br
Mike

Car still on the drive at the moment getting spare car tomorrow and they are taking ours then. :) luckily it is still drivable at the moment so not too bad. At least we could get about (to grandparents, my parents and home) as we had planned. Got in touch with doctors as soon as they opened this morning, didnt think it was bad enough to go to Casualty with. Hopefully these tablets will help us keep it moving. Matt has been back at work today but found it painful, and I am back at work on wednesday night.

Well it would pay for the new cooker if nothing else. Been to the doctors got co-codamol (30/500) the stronger ones, and diclofenac so paracetamol covers and something stronger than Ibuprofen taken. Hope you both recover swiftly. Cod liver oil and Glucosamine sulphate are very good. I take these every day as part of my weight training and I don't suffer with hardly any muscle stiffness.
Get all the compensation you can. What you will receive is not only for pain and suffering, there are also expenses incurred for hospital/doctors/physio visits etc. Plus now that your car has been involved in an accident and needed a repair, chances are if you should ever need to trade your car in for a new one, it will show up on a search and you won't get the full trade in value.
This happened to me in 1995, I had a car, 3 months old and someone ran into the back of it. My Mother in Law and Sister In Law, both in the back suffered whip lash and were paid out compensation. Dealers found out about the accident when I went to trade it in and wouldn't offer a full trade in value.

Not had the car that long, and plan on keeping hold of it for quite a while yet anyway, so hopefully that wont be too much of a problem for us, fingers crossed.

Hmmm where is the best place to buy the wheat bags??

hi sue try boots or health shops i know boots sell them partners got one swears by it .hope you feel better soon

Oh poor you Sue - and Matt too of course. Hope it eases up soon. Co-codemol are outstandingly good - I had them for a severe bout of tonsilitus a few years back. I just wish the Doc had warned me about the possibility of hallucinegenic side effects....I was in such a bad way by the time I got them I'd have happily swallowed anything just to ease the pain a bit - it wasn't until, having passed a fairly interesting night with things coming out of the walls and all sorts, that I looked at the active ingredient and put two and two together!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and things.

I was off work today - tried driving for the first time since the accident this morning and made it about half a mile before my back was just killing me. My neck has been quite bad today but my back in the last 30 mins or so has just been horrific.

Instant cure would be fantastic and outweigh any financial compensation we end up with noend. I just hope we're both better for Florida in a few months. Not being able to go on the coasters and enjoy ourselves over there would be a nightmare :(

Sorry to hear that Matt, it nearly always takes a few days for everything to come out pain wise, was about 3 days for mine, definitely seek a physio or osteopath out, and see if anyone local can recommend one, as they are a bit hit and miss !

Thanks Ian.

Solicitors phoned today (instructed by Churchill because we have legal aid through the policy). She said that a health centre would be getting in touch to evaluate us and then we'd be getting a phsyio eval too and they'd decide how many sessions of physio we'd need - all for free so that should be good.

I've been taking the Diclofenac regularly today - took one co-codamol this aft but took two of them about an hour ago. I've got the drowsyness/out of it feeling but lower back now is absolutely awful. Think I'm going to have to go lay down.

Hope Sue is getting on okay at work - its her first night back and her line of work is a lot more physical than mine.

Just to say thank you for the words of advice and support over the past few days. I didnt get on very well at work, even trying to give medicines meant bending over cots so called at A&E on the way home, was seen by one of the consultants who has given me a sick note for a week. We are both still on regular pain killers and heat pads to our back and necks. Matt has ordered a couple of wheat bags from ebay, and we were hoping they might come today but no such luck, fingers crossed for tomorrow morning :)
Still waiting for paper work from the solicitors, both had phone calls from a nurse who is recommending us both for urgent physio.

alcohol and paracetomol worked for me wen i got whiplash if it hurt i didnt remember it much lmao soo there ya go :D
