Best torch for night photography??

Homebase sell 1 million candle power torches for around £12, probably bigger ones too.

Have a look at the Fenix range- i Have an older TK40 and an LD20. There's some newer TK models that are up to about 800 lumens now. Could light a bat light no problem:D. I don't tend to use candlepower as it's often misleading as to what the light actually looks like- i.e. often manufactures have measured the light intensity an inch or so from the bulb- not that I'm saying the one you've highlighted falls into that category but trying to convert 800 lumens into candlepower would probably look rubbish and not tell the story of how bright that many lumens are.
 
Fenix are one of the top brands and are very good! One of the other main players are LED Lenser, I have an LED Lenser P7 and find it to be very impressive indeed, the amount of light it produces it truly remarkable from such a small package.

FWIW, LED Lenser and Fenix, absolutely wipe the floor with Maglites! That's not opinion, that's fact, I've had both, and would never go back to Maglites.

If you're out at night with a good few pounds worth of camera gear I'd suggest a nice heavy maglite 4d or bigger - just in case some ****** likes the idea of robbing you !!
 
I go out lightpainting a fair bit and take a 4d maglite, useful for more than lightpainting :)

I go into old buildings/ un desirable places at silly o clock and tend to be alone so its nice to have a "friend"

But I also have a couple of surefire g2's :) for their super bright light :)

I own a cheap million candle watt torch, similar to the one you linked. the battery is only good for 20 minutes.

Would this give you enough time?

My lenser P7 is excellent. Used it all winter when walking the dogs & never changed the batteries (130 hours battery life according to the blurb), & it fits in a pocket - just. Would highly recommend them. (It'll light up something 100yards away with ease)
 
If you are looking for some good deals and a great sedlection on torches try here I've used them with no problems although it does take some time for delivery.

Candlepower is a great site- some of the mods they do are pretty awesome and the way some of the guys talk about getting specific torches for 'perps' is always amusing:D

Word of warning to anyone though- if you're the type of person that's indecisive about 'which entry DSLR' then if you look there for a torch you would never buy one:lol:
 
fenix are great. Or get a cheap thing from deal extreme. Will take a while to arrive but will do a great job.

Got a H14 Headtorch absolutely superb the P17 is not bad either, niether come cheap though.

I have seen the X21 now that is mad for a torch, both size and the light it puts out (definately not cheap)
 
I have the LED Lenser P7 & P3 combo. Theyre both awesome! I recently bought the H7 which is basically a P7 for your barnet. Slightly less lumens than the P7 but still unbelievable performance. Headtorches just seem better if youre togging in the dark. The H7 can be tilted 90 degrees so that if your standing up straight it is creating a big (or small depending on the quick focus setting) circle on the ground below you.
