Evening,

Just wondering what the best method is of backing up Lightroom.

I have used the custom Backup feature each time it starts, dont back it uip all the time but option is there, as i have started this recently i was happy with this method.

Was sorting out an external back up drive this evening and noticed that the catalogue backup seemed rather small which led me to think that i wasnt backing up correctly or that the original photos were not being backed up.

So just looking for some words of wisdom if possible.

Thanks

The catalogue backup is just that a backup of the catalogue.

You need to copy that folder plus the folder that your images are stored in.

cheers thought as much but wanted to double check, need to recheck my backup methods.

At the moment i working on a succesful workflow for myself and decided to copy RAW files to external drive along with LR catalogue backup, this would be sufficient i presume a i can also recreate jpegs from RAW files.

i really don't like the way the lr catalogue works tbh, but yeah as cowasaki has said

otherwise save all changes to to xml then i think you can just back up the folders and import later on
