Yes
right guys, ive got dirt on the internal viewfinder of my 40d and it's driving me mental.
whats the best way to get it clean without damaging anything else?

by internal i mean it's not on the viewfinder that i look through or on the mirror but on the bit above the mirror if that makes sense.

thanks in advance
emma

It may well just be on the outside of the screen above the mirror (if you see what I mean) in which case a rocket blower or the brush end of a lens pen will shift it no problem

That bit is called the focusing screen and any dirt on it can be removed as Graham says with a brush or a blower. If the dirt is on the inside of it (unusual but I have seen it) then the screen can be removed for cleaning but I'd recommend a visit to a repair shop for that. If you have a look in your manual there should be a section on replacing the focusing screen and you should find how to do it there. (It is possible but NO WAY am I taking responsibility for anyone breaking their toys!) :)

Have a look in the trader section here for Flash in the Pan and he stocks everything you will need :)

Cheers guys I'll get it sorted. It's on the outside of the screen as I managed to shift some of it.
I just didn't want to damage it LOL

Had some on mine too, thanks for the thread it's reminded me to sort it while I'm here.
Good blast with the rocket blower has sorted it

Now go and check your sensors to make sure that's not where the muck went!

See, clean as a whistle...
