Best way to learn?

Hi, I been around and about for a while, been trying to learn photography since christmas time, when I got my D-SLR.

I am particlarly interested in fashion/lingerie/glamour photography, although I am always up for trying anything really. I have had a couple of shoots with friends at their homes, up to topless, but I wasnt really impressed with any of the results. I had a few shots that were ok, but despite my models being lovely, they just didnt satisfy me.

I have some basic level equipment, but I should be able to get reasonable results with it. I have a Sony Alpha 350 with 18-70mm f3.5-5.6 Kit lens, a Minolta 50mm f1.7 prime, and a sigma 55-200mm f4-5.6 zoom. I also have a HVL-F36AM flashgun, 2 Jessops own brand flashes with ebay wireless triggers, stands and shoot through umbrellas, and a few other bits n pieces like reflectors etc.

Basically, I have tried learning through books and various websites, such as here, strobist.com, flickr groups etc and feel I have ground to a significant standstill. :bang:

I am looking for a course or some tuition such as a group shoot or something where I would be able to try out a real studio, be taught a little about lighting set-ups etc, in and around the Birmingham/Walsall area.

I'm also looking for camera clubs which may be willing to take on new members, also in Birmingham, and in particular, Great Barr.

Although not wanting to sound like a total noob, your advice is appreciated.

Calumet just off the Aston road, about 2 mins from the merc dealer by the roundabout with the clock tower in the middle.

They have a studio and do exactly what you are on about some evenings - lighting tutorials and that kind of thing. You can hire the studio too, for shooting what you want. Plenty of other studios to rent, look through the backof Aamateur Photographer, or other magazines - do a google of "photographic studio in Birmingham"
Do a google of "camera clubs in and around Birmingham/Walsall. I know there is a good one in Walsall itself, very active and quite big.

The more you shoot. the more you learn. Get out there as much as you can.
