Yesterday, storm Dudley passed through. It was windy but the worst of it was further north. Tomorrow we will be in the middle of storm Eunice, in the narrow Red zone. Today I went across the road to the church grounds in the morning. As soon as I found my first subject a passer by wanted to chat. Fortunately for me, the ant I had spotted stayed where it was for a good long while and so I did get to photograph it after all. That is the ant in the first three images. I then found the next three in the short period before I got rained off. #5 and #6 were rushing around in the undergrowth and I only got brief glimpses of them as they came into and went out of view several times. I was surprised I got anything at all from them. I went out again in the afternoon and spent quite a long time over there but found almost nothing. #7 was only visible for a few seconds and that was the only shot I got of it. #8 almost didn't get processed, until I realised that there was something unusual about it. Not sure exactly what we are seeing inside the shell. (The shell was rather small.)

I used a Canon EF mount Laowa 100mm 2X macro lens and a pair of 2X Kenko teleconverters attached to a Sony A7sii with a Sigma MC-11 EF to Sony E mount adapter, and a Yongnuo YN24EX twin flash with flash heads reversed and firing into a 12 inch (30cm) diameter bowl lined with printer paper over aluminium foil, and a single diffusion layer of artificial silk.

The raw files were processed with PhotoLab, Lightroom and DeNoise AI.

There are 1300 pixel high versions of these and the rest of the images from the session in this album at Flickr.

Nice set, great detail, #8 - I think it's watching you through the safety of it's shell :)

Another great detailed set Nick :)

The ants are excellent again - and the eyes of the snail are mesmerising.

Paul.

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the delay in responding. I seem to have lost track of this one for several weeks.
