Hi everyone

What do you do when you need a BIG LENS CAP

I have recently purchased a Canon 600 F4L IS :D

and the hood / sock / thing it comes with is OK when storing it in the case , but I find it a pain in the a-r-?-e when in use :lol:

so I hunted the good old in toe net and found this chap in the good old US of A

ordered one and it arrived today , much easier to use and it can be fitted and removed very easy even with the lens hood on :thumbs:

He also makes them for that other lens maker , can quite remember their name ?

something like Nickone ?

So down to value for money , is it value ? piece of round plastic with some rubber buttons for £45 notes :cuckoo:

If it saves some damage to the front lens element it is then

All my long lenses are kept and stored with the hood on, this prevents damage to the front element. I am either shooting with them, or they are in a Lowepro / Kata pouch, I never have a use for a lens hood for long lenses - from my experience they are just something else in your pocket and just get in the way.
 
I always have the hood extended on my 300-800, no real need for a cap as such.

Looks like I need a new coat now , with bigger pockets ,
as this lens cap is 6 1/4" across ( 16 cm ) :D
 
I looked at the Don Zeck offerings but also found a tip on using a Tupperware container. I found the correct sized one and cut it off an inch above the base...perfect snug fit.

I'm not sure if they're still made, but Lens Coat hoodies are really really good IMO.

They used to be about £20 for a 600mm f4 one :thinking: and were available at Warehouse Express
 
Another vote for lenscoat hoodies: It fits well, is easy to fit and remove, and can be stuffed in your pocket/camera bag when not being used. :thumbs:
