Does anyone know of a decent audio library for bird calls? Im specifically looking for the call of a Common Kingfisher, and it must be downloadable, the higher the quality the better. Ive found a few bird call libraries, but have either not included the species I need, or haven't been downloadable.

Hey MK... have you seen/heard the ones on the RSPB site...?

I have some old RSPB cd`s that I could rip and burn for you,if you want?

Yeah, those calls are perfect, but I can't seem to download then as they play in a flash player.

Yeah, that would be grand thanks. Do they include a Kingfisher? If so, any chance you could rip it to mp3 and email that one? How many CDs do you have? If you rip and burn them and pop them in the post, I'll send you a bit of money via paypal (if you use it) to thank you for the effort.

Ah damn MK, sorry. That will teach me for not reading the thread properly.

*note to self... men cannot multitask*

:)

Cheers mate. Yeah, my local Kingfisher has been teasing my this weekend. Had it landing on the Kingfisher stick for a split second, but not long enough to get a shot. Didn't see it today, but im probably going back on wednesday, so want to increase my chances with a bit of calling. ;)

I`ll dig then out tomorrow and sort it out, just donate some brass to the NSPCC,that will do for me.............

PM me a postal address.

Edit.....found them and the kingfisher is on.

If you have Realplayer - think its free - then you can download those sound clips from the RSPB site

This is probably a silly question (I'm not a bird tog) but will the calls actually help? How do you know the call you play is not a warning call or something, and won't it sound different throught a speaker, different range etc?.
Just courious.

How? I just get a play button that plays the audio in a flahs player. Please tell me the secret. :)

No idea, hehe. I just hope it's not a warning call, lol. Im just hoping that the resident bird will either want to mate with the sound or try and chase it away. And yeah, you are probably right that it will sound a little different, but suspect it will sound close enough to trick the bird. I know someone who can mimick birds to great effect. He doesn't sound exactly the same, but gets the call right so can lure birds in. I won't really know if it has worked until I try though. :)

Another alternative is books which contain a CD of the calls, but obviously the expensive option for just a KF shriek/trill..

I have 3, Bird Calls and Songs by Carlton Books, RSPB book on Birds (red cover) and Birds by Mitchell Beazely, which can be downloaded to either an Ipod or to laptop/PC.

If this is any use to you, I can get the ISBN numbers of each...
