I live in Attleborough, Norfolk.
I was beavering away in my workshop this morning, and I suddenly thought, there’s no bird song?
I went out into the garden and there wasn’t a bird in sight, no singing, nothing!
We always have pigeons and seagulls believe it or not!
But there was nothing?

What have we done?
 
We used to have two magpies that would come in the garden, but I haven’t seen them for months :(

We have, I believe 3, if not 4 regulars. We also do get Blackbirds, Robins and a pair of collar doves. But the Magpies 'chatter' drowns out all others. But now that you've posted this ... thinking on it, they have been quieter lately
 
Time of year? Birdsong is always more prevalent in Spring and early summer.

I do think that's mostly the reason, but I do remember these birds still singing through September - though it's been rainier/colder than previous Septembers [we all remember 'Indian summer']

Really weird, we have lived in our house for just over 16 years.
For the first 14, nothing regular apart from a few pigeons.
Last year or 2, sparrows, blue tits, robins, pigeons, doves, magpies, crows, starlings, sea gulls and the occasional bird of prey ( over head)

We've spent the last 5 weeks at our house in France. In the first week there were swallows everywhere, then the weather changed and they gathered for a couple of days before disappearing - empty skies. Then another week later the martins gathered for a couple of days and we're suddenly gone, leaving empty skies again. After a few more days, the winter bird varieties started appearing. I've never seen such clear departures like this before.
 
At the house in GC over the last year its been random, this summer the extreme heat had the super early squad out at 4am which was nice i got up a few times and had a beer and fed blackbirds with currants but they just disappeared during the day completely. during some days it was 40degs and it was silent/
 
It’s definitely been a very quiet year for small bird sightings, possibly some of it down to the ( I think ? ) announcement by the rspb to stop feeding till nov to protect finches , but in a drought year this has had a knock on effect as natural food supply dried up as well ..
 
I tried to record the morning chorus while visiting family in Cornwall, there just wasn’t many birds calling
Too much traffic noise at home to do sound recordings and not so many birds singing anyway
 
Here in Kent, twenty miles from the sea - seagulls, crows, magpies, starlings, collared doves, sparrows, blue tits etc.
