I am new to DSLR (7th December) and use a Canon 70-200mm f4L IS + 1.4x, handheld, for birds.

The combination with Canon's latest sensor technology in the crop-sensor 70D, make this a much more practical setup for birds than I expected....

However, I feel a strong desire for a Canon 400mm f5.6L!

I used to use a Sigma 120-400 on my Canon 60D, but have just bought a Canon 70-200 2.8 mk I and a mk 3 Canon 2X converter. Haven't been able to get out a see the difference yet.
