Hi folks, I am just getting into photography and have just returned from holiday and this morning I was totally caught on the hop by my son-in-law with a request to take some action shots of his son (obviously my grandson) when he plays in a cricket final at the local club this coming Friday. I have been watching the earlier post on "Cricket Tips" but am looking for a little more in-depth info if possible.

I have a Canon 50D and the longest lens that I have is a Sigma 70-200mm
F2.8 II APO EX DG Macro which I intend to use along with a Sigma 1.4X EX DG Teleconverter (I also have a Canon 28-70mm F2.8 L USM which is obviously a bit on the short side!))

Am I correct in thinking that I should use the TV Mode with AI Servo AF, what about "Picture Style" and "White Balance" (Should this be Auto?) and what about "ISO" and should I shoot in JPEG L fine. I currently have the colorspace set on sRGB, is this any good for cricket? And what about metering, I saw in the earlier post the suggestion to meter off the grass and then make an adjustment to the exposure, having never done this before some advice on which buttons to press would help enormously. Sorry to appear somewhat dumb but I have only used a Fuji Finepix S300 previously. Not a lot of time to practice so any help will be most gratefully received.

Hi Geoff...it might be a tad advanced, and it assumes you've got some longer lenses...but take a quick look at part 1 of my tutorial (listed below in my signature). It does concetrate a bit more on Football and Rugby, but the general techniques are applicable to cricket as well.

Have a read, and if you've got any other questions, then drop me a PM or reply here!

Good luck! James.
