Not sure that it works Andy, the bird needs to be lighter I think, my eye is drawn to the out of focus trees in the background rather than the bird.

That is true, but what you can do is learn from it, see what would improve it / make it work, and apply that next time the shot presents itself.
 
Thats what I like about this forum, the opportunities to learn are constantly available and freely offered. Right soon as the sun comes out I'm off to get some in flight shots. (y)
