Thinking of getting the RS-7 to hang my D4 from and have a question. If I want to use a tripod do I have to undo the 'D' clip then attach an Arca Swiss plate (I know there is a Manfrotto plate) or is there an easier way, say, keeping a plate attached permanently. Sorry if it sounds a silly question but I have only ever used straps (Optech) attached in the conventional manner.

Yes you would need to remove the D. The other option is you get a small 1" arca clamp and then screw (and locktite if you wish) the d ring into that.
Some one here's been using this method for a while and I will at some point.
 
I have an RS7 and wanted to do the same. I was also after a dual harness, and found one on the 7dayshop website. This comes with two plates that screw into the bottom of each camera, with a 1/4 thread underneath for a tripod, and a carabiner loop at one end for the strap clip. it was only £15 or so.
 
I'm getting a Hold Fast strap which works on the same principle and this was something that concerned me too.

I use RRS ball heads and L plates on my two bodies. I didn't fancy the agg of having to remove them and /or the straps to put it on a tripod/monopod.

Searched the RRS site and they make clamps which fit the L plates/heads and have strap bosses.

Connect the strap to the clamp, clamp to camera or L plate and/or tripod. Simples.... and no need to remove

These, by the way are Arca style. I'm sure you can get similar for the BR straps
 
I used the RS-7 for a while but I didnt like the way it swings around all over the place so I now use a spider and love it................
 
Just seen this - Attached shows what I used with the RS-7. By attaching the RS-7 to a arca swiss clamp you can leave your lens plate attached to the tripod foot already to mount on a tripod if required. Worked brilliantly for me with a 300/2.8 lens. Switching from hand held to tripod is just a matter of unscrewing the clamp and then mounting on a pod as per normal. BTW by leaving a lens plate on the tripod foot you can balance the set-up so the lens hangs perfectly horizontal when using with the Black Rapid. It does not sway around at all.

I use the same method as Roy describes to carry a 500f4 with pro body,have had no problems whatsoever...

I also steady the lens by holding the tripod foot as well...
