(Orthetrum cancellatum) - Male

Known as "Blue Arrows" because of the speed they fly, (skim), low above the surface of the water - and they regularly perch on the ground, (bank)
This is an older male as it has lost the yellow markings along the sides of it's body
It likes large open areas of standing or slow flowing water - I see these at a large local man made lake in France that has been created for fishing contests, (funny the French!!)

The image reminds me of the atmosphere on the day - very bright light and low contrast, but bright
