Blackberry 8310 - Worth upgrade to better BB?

Yes
Been pondering seriously about the upgrade that I am due from O2. Basically I have an 8310 and I'd like it to be a bit faster and to better display the internet but on the basis that I can text, make calls, e-mail, check basic internet stuff, take reasonable pictures/films, etc, I'm sort of ok with it.

One advantage would be wifi, but to be honest that aint a show stopper for me and of course the new blackberry's look better and has a better looking on screen interface, but really, what would I gain?

I have looked at an iphone upgrade but the providers are asking silly money for these even on 24 month contracts, whereas with the blackberry's they seem to be giving them away, but if I sign a new contract I may likely lose the heavily discounted tariff I am on. Just want to know if it is really worth it having an updated Blackberry?

What do the newer Blackberry's bring to the table? Help and advice please!

The newer ones are definately faster. I've just got a Bold 9800 * i think that's the model * and its faster, and the trackball is now a touch pad which works really well.

Apart from that, it works in exactly the same wasy as the prvious Bold, just in a little smaller package.

The big difference to me is the trackball to touch pad. The trackballs are always going wrong. I replace 4-5 blackberrys a week at work because of the trackballs.

Thanks Barney. I think I'm gonna hold out and run with my currrent tariff till one of the following happens.

a) Current BB fails and claim another newer model on insurance.
b) Iphone 4G comes out and current 3GS becomes cheaper.

Plan b) is possibly a pipe dream but you never know!

I am currently using the Bold 9700...very good BB to use for all the stuff you need to use.
What you can do is that by the time your contract renewal can get a Bold 9700 and if you want a 3Gs then can either exchange in forums/ebay even with the iPhone 4G if it comes out soon. =)
I think the BB plan kind of cheaper than iPhone plans as some you might not need to pay extra for the phone. and still even cheaper if you sell the bold and the 3Gs..

Hope the 3Gs will go cheaper soon as I might want to exchange to 3Gs as internet is a lot faster than Bold 9700... although i will lose BBM...

I like your thinking but can you please tell me how I can swap a BB Bold 9700 which sells on ebay for about £200-£300 for an Iphone that sells for about £400 to £500?

Please... tell me how you worked that one out.

I was a confirmed BB user and had several models over the years but swapped, a couple of months ago to an Iphone and have found it to be a total revelation - it is much better for me. Iphones are expensive but, at least on Vodafone, I don't have to pay for a BB charge on an Iphone contract which kind of re-balances the cost a little bit.
Website stuff, Apps and they way that it simply integrates with Outlook etc. is excellent.

Thats the thing Raphael, I see what an iphone will offer me and then compare it to what an updated BB will offer me and I ask myself why should I even consider re-signing any contract for a phone that doesnt really bring any innovation. Blackberry was funky once, but Iphone have taken over the market. I want one, but if I had the money to spend on either the phone or the increased montlhy contract, I would spend it on my dream lens instead? :dummy:

I have both the Bold 9700 and the Iphone 3gs.

The Bold is paid for by work, the iphone by me.

If I need to make a call, I use the Iphone. For music playng, the iphone, for GPS the iphone. The only thing I use the Blackberry for is corporate email and international calls (work can pick up that bill ;);) )

I think my question has been answered, I'm gonna wait till either the iphone price comes down or till I can afford the silly prices for a handset. Not likely cos I'm looking to a get a Canon 24-70L F2.8 soon as I can!

Thanks everyone for posting.

As I have looking at the very mint condition of iPhone on other forums that has second hands.
they mostly around 360 -420 pounds inc RMSD.
and a brand new bold 9700 might be able to sell it up to 300 pounds if unlocked.
this is what I have been thinking about that. I think its cheaper though.

Cause I had an orange contract before and I can change either to BB or normal internet service anytime I want. and also with the BB service I still be able to use normal internet on the iPhone.....worked for me...dont know if it will work for others.
Also with vodafone, i am currently using the BB plan and still able to use internet on the Nokia N97 mini.....
I hope O2 would be able to do that....cause sometimes u need to keep the contract until a certain time and you will be able to change the plan...
