hi, been thinking of getting one of these, for wife, for Christmas...shes got a blackberry phone, so these will work together, or should i get a different one...
take a trip over to crackberry website to get info on them pros and cons vs other platforms...the bb comunity are very critical as well as pro the platform where it deserves it.
some definite miss-information above.
version 2 of playbook is released imminently, runs qnx and it will support android apps so all in all a very good platform
ipad is good if youre completely non techie, android is still a geeks platform, playbook will be a good platform they just rushed it to market.
personally I like the playbook formfactor, dont own one as I have no need for one at moment. If your wife has a blackberry (version 6 or 7 software) then its worth it (assuming you can confirm the tethered data usage of playbook will be included in her phone tarrif for free)
Various sources put the sales figure on launch day alone at approximately 50,000, exceeding expectations.[28] RIM announced in its quarterly earnings that half a million PlayBook tablets were shipped in the first quarter.[29] However, after lukewarm market reception, there were reports that the company revised its second-quarter estimates from 2.4 million down to 800,000 900,000 units.[30] When RIM announced their second quarter financial results, they revealed that they shipped 200,000 units.[31] [32] Following several months of poor sales RIM started discounting the price of Playbook from its original $499 retail price to $300 at many outlets in late September 2011.[33] The price was further reduced to $199 at various retail outlets in both Canada and US in November due to apparent low market demand.[34]
According to Strategy Analytics figures in the 2011 second quarter, the PlayBook's market share is 3.3 percent, compared to Apple's 61.3 percent with its iPad and iPad 2 (iOS), Google Android (numerous manufacturers) with 30.1 percent, and Microsoft (also numerous manufacturers) with 4.6 percent.
Sadly you want it for Xmas, the Kindle Fire is another new boy on the pitch. 7" and has lots of pluses, but I'm not sure on the UK release date, but it will be after Xmas
