Watched this video on YouTube and went on a mini spending spree on Amazon. I hate the internet. :bang:

So I got the RS-7, BRAD and FastenR3 for just £80 which seemed a good deal.

I just ripped the Op/tech strap off in anticipation then realised the QR plate for my ballhead was attached and made me wonder if I'll need to swap between the two?

It's a Redsnapper BH-12. There really isn't much clearance between the screw and the head so I'm guessing swapping round is the only way?

I'm not fussed as I normally carry the camera on the tripod if I'm using it but if there is a solution I'd be interested to hear it. :)

I believe that RS uses the Arca-Swiss system. If so, you could do what I did and get an A-S clamp (about £40) and attach that to the RS-7. Then you just slip the QR plate on your camera into the clamp.
 
Hi Frank, yes it does use the Arca-Swiss system. Do you have a link for the clamp you used as I can't find it?
 
I also have an RS7 which I am very pleased with. Like Frank above I have stadardised on the Arca Swiss plates and clamps for my lenses and bodies. I bought a Kirk clamp from Warehouse Express as they do an appropriate narrow clamp. This is permanently attached to the carabiner on the RS7 and a simple job to attach any lens or camera to it.

The clamps can also be bought from Ebay for considerably less than the £39 for the Kirk. This seller I can highly recommend for service and the AS clamps and plates of which I have several.

Hi Paul, glad to hear you like the RS-7!

Regarding the clamps, I had a look at the link you provided and I couldn't for the life of me find anything called a AS Clamp? Can you pin-point me to one please?

Hi Martin,

They take some finding as they are called different things by different people. Here is the link to the one I bought, I have also boght a number of the adapter plates from there as well:

The bubble level is pretty useless but it does fit all the Arca Swiss plates that I have. I have an AS plate or L plate on each body and it is so easy to attach the camera to the clamp on the RS7, one other advantage is you can fix the Black Rapid adapter to the clamp with Loctite or similar and the risk of it unscrewing is almost nil.

Thanks for the link Paul, so this basically replaces the existing clamp on the ball head to I guess it provides a deeper slot for the screw?

An L-plate is definetly on my list too, but I want to get a RRS ball head as the redsnapper is good but not that great so I don't really want to spend a lot on accessories for it.

Seriously can't wait to try the RS out, looks superb!

This clamp will accept the same quick-release plate as your Redsnapper head. So you can connect this clamp to your RS-7 then attach the camera to the clamp using the QR plate that's already on the camera.
 
Would the Black Rapid R-T1 fasten work with the Red Snapper plate I have the Manfrotto RC2 plates so it seems the simple solution for me.

Hi Pete,

I do not have a Red Snapper head so I am not certain of your question, I have read that it is an Arca Swiss compatible plate so I do not understand how you can use the RC2 plates with it. If you have the Manfrotto RC2 system of plates and your system works with it OK then the new BR R-T1 fastener would simply replace the screw fitted to the RC2 plate and away you go.

I did read that there was an initial problem with the first batch as the tolerances on the manfrotto kit meant that some of the plates would not work with the R-T1. I believe that has been sorted out now so if you were to buy new now they should be fine.

I hope I have gone some way in answering your question.

Martin - if you're planning to buy an RRS head, go for the BH-55LR. Expensive to import but superb engineering - imo it's the best there is.

That was the one I was looking at, I know Scott Kelby recommends that one too as do most of the guys on Kelby Training. It is expensive, but it's built to last and being the top model you can't ever think 'should I have gone one up?'.
